Johanna, the Super & Sweet Seven Month Old

Johanna is already seven months old if you can believe it. Yesterday I was changing out her 3 month picture with her six month picture and was almost overwhelmed with how much she has changed in three months.

She is getting her first two teeth on the bottom row – they are just popping out. Again, I am the luckiest mom in the world because my little sweetie takes it all in stride. She hasn’t been fussy from teething, just her normal happy self.

I feel that in the last few weeks her personality has popped. She is extremely inquisitive, curious, and loves to mimic Mommy and Daddy. If we bang our hands on the table she will soon follow. I also believe that she is attempting to communicate with us by using the “milk” sign. When I do it, and especially if she is hungry, she will get impatient and fussy. She has been showing that she knows the milk sign for a few months now and it looks to me that she will move her right fist a little. It is really fun! The next signs I would like to teach her are “mommy” and “daddy” of course, “eat”, “diaper change”, “doggie” and “more.”

Another example of Johanna’s intelligence is that she knows who Kujoe is – first of all, she just adores Kujoe and bursts into a beautiful smile every time he comes around. If Vince or I ask her “where’s Kujoe” she will look around and crane her neck trying to find him.

Her mobility is increasing, too. She scoots pretty fast and does what I like to call “the worm.” When she sees something she must covet, like the remote or my cell phone for instance, she will scoot, fall on her tummy, and repeat until she moves enough to grasp her object with one long reach. She has also learned how to pull the sheet we put on the floor so that the toys come to her. Smart baby!

Another area of exploration is dinner time. I have been making her baby food and she has been apple to try a variety of fruits and veggies including apples, pears, peaches, peas, carrots, and butternut squash. Some days she is interested but other days not so much. She has recently been eating fresh cantaloupe out of a mesh baby feeder. Yesterday she was chowing it down. She loved it! She is also EXTREMELY interested in drinking from cups and glasses and when Vince or I bring a cup to our mouth her little arms exquisitely reach out for it (this includes beer bottles, too.) I have given her a few sips of water and it is fun to watch her process the cool and cold liquid dribbling out of her mouth.

Soon my little baby will be crawling. It will be fun but I know I am in for a workout. We need to baby proof our house very soon – she is already trying to get to cords and electrical outlets.
That’s it for now! Stayed tuned to find out what Johanna will be learning next.
